Hi Bandung – Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Saturday to hold a series of meetings with top Iranian officials.

The visit took place amid Pakistan’s efforts to bridge diplomatic communications between Iran and the United States, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.

While in the Iranian capital, Naqvi is scheduled to meet with a number of important officials, including Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

The meeting is expected to discuss the latest developments regarding the diplomatic process that Islamabad is pursuing to ease tensions between Tehran and Washington.

Pakistan Offers New Proposal

According to sources in Pakistan quoted by Anadolu, the main agenda of Naqvi’s visit is to present a “new proposal” designed to revive the negotiation track which is currently deadlocked.

The proposal is said to be aimed at creating a space for more constructive dialogue as well as opening up opportunities to reach a temporary understanding between the two countries.

Pakistan has in recent months sought to play the role of mediator amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States.

Islamabad is trying to push for a diplomatic solution to avoid further escalation and create conditions more conducive to negotiations.

These mediation efforts have been carried out since the outbreak of the Iran-US conflict which was triggered by the United States and Israel’s attack on Iran on February 28.-***
