PONTIANAK NEWS – The Indonesian government invites Russia and countries in the Eurasian region to strengthen strategic collaboration in developing climate-resilient infrastructure, especially in the coastal protection sector, disaster early warning systems and the development of sustainable green infrastructure.

This invitation was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) when speaking at the EAEU–ASEAN session in St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2026 in St. Petersburg Petersburg, Russia.

According to AHY, in the midst of global uncertainty and the increasing impact of climate change, building resilient infrastructure, energy security, and food and water security are important foundations for sustainable development.

One of the national strategic agendas that requires global technological support is the construction of a Giant Sea Wall in the North Coast (Pantura) area of Java.

“Indonesia is finalizing plans to build a Giant Sea Wall as part of a broader coastal protection agenda. This step not only provides physical protection, but also safeguards people’s lives, protects livelihoods, and ensures the sustainability of social and economic ecosystems in coastal areas,” said AHY.

He assessed that this project opens up broad opportunities for cooperation with member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), especially in the fields of coastal engineering, sea barrier systems, long-term operation and maintenance, joint research, as well as the development of technology-based logistics and low-carbon transportation.

Apart from protecting coastal areas, AHY explained three main priorities for national infrastructure development, namely decarbonization of the transportation sector to support the Net Zero Emissions target, strengthening connectivity through integration of ports and the national railway network, and mitigating the impacts of climate change such as floods, landslides and land subsidence.

According to AHY, current global challenges cannot be overcome unilaterally so strong partnerships are needed that are oriented towards real results.

“We need to move from dialogue to action, from frameworks to real projects, and from commitment to results,” he stressed.
