News Screen – At least eight people were killed and dozens more injured as a result of an Israeli airstrike in the city of Tyre, southern Lebanon, on Tuesday. The attack triggered a wave of displacement of residents after the Israeli military issued an evacuation order for residents of the city and surrounding areas.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that initial attacks that occurred before evacuation warnings killed at least eight people and injured 32 others. Rescue teams are still searching for victims among the buildings that collapsed as a result of the attack.
Shortly after the attack, the Israeli military asked all Tyre residents, including those in Christian areas and Palestinian refugee camps, to immediately leave the area and move north of the Zahrani River.

The evacuation order sparked panic among residents. The flow of vehicles was seen to be heavy towards the northern region of Lebanon, while a number of families carried the necessary items to leave areas that were no longer considered safe.
Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that airstrikes also occurred in more than a dozen other locations in the country’s southern region. The intensity of the attacks increased as the conflict between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah group continued.
Tire has been one of the areas that has been repeatedly targeted by attacks since the conflict escalated again last March. Until this week, several areas of the city, including predominantly Christian areas, were relatively spared from evacuation warnings that previously focused only on certain locations.
The Israeli military previously accused Hezbollah members of operating in a number of civilian areas in Tyre. Israel stated that it would continue to take military action if the group’s activities continued in the areas targeted by operations.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah also continues to launch attacks on Israeli troops operating in southern Lebanon. The conflict that has been going on for the last few months has worsened humanitarian conditions in the border areas of the two countries.
According to data from Lebanese authorities, more than 3,600 people have reportedly died since the conflict escalated in March 2026. In addition, more than one million residents have been forced to flee their homes due to ongoing attacks.
On the Israeli side, the military said at least 29 military personnel and a civilian contractor were killed in operations in Lebanon.
A ceasefire effort announced in April has so far been unable to stop the fighting. Both parties are still carrying out attacks on each other, so concerns about the spread of conflict in the Middle East region continue to increase.***
