LEBAK PORTAL – British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, announced his resignation from office on Monday, June 22 2026. This resignation came after the Labor Party’s significant defeat in last May’s elections, which led to reduced support within the party.
Keir Starmer stated that a Labor leadership election to choose his successor would be held in September.
Although Keir Starmer has previously indicated a desire to remain in office, pressure to resign is growing within his cabinet, as reported by the Kyodo news agency.

According to previous reports from Sputnik, Starmer will remain as British Prime Minister until the election is over and ensure the handover of power takes place in an orderly manner.
“I will ask the National Executive Committee of the Labor Party to open registration for candidates for chairman on July 9 and close it before the summer recess. If the election takes place, a new chairman will be appointed before parliament reconvenes in September,” said Starmer in Downing Street, London.
The Anadolu news agency also reported that Starmer explained his resignation as a response to questions from his party about his suitability to lead in the upcoming election.
