Butolpost.com — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez stressed that attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon or UNIFIL cannot be tolerated and must stop immediately.
Sánchez made this firm statement after a telephone conversation with the Lebanese Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, on Monday.
“Lebanon did not choose this war, and its sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected,” Sánchez wrote via his X account.
He also expressed Spain’s full support and solidarity with Lebanon, while highlighting the important role of Spanish troops who are members of UNIFIL.
“Our troops at UNIFIL are doing a commendable job. Attacks on UN peacekeeping missions are unacceptable and must stop immediately,” he stressed.
UNIFIL itself has been operating in southern Lebanon since 1978, with a mandate strengthened through UN Security Council Resolution 1701 following the war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006.
