PAKUAN MEDIA, KABUL – Afghanistan is being besieged by a massive humanitarian disaster. Heavy rains that have poured relentlessly over the past 12 days have triggered a series of flash floods and landslides that have paralyzed large parts of the country.
The Afghan Disaster Management Authority reports the situation is increasingly critical, with the death toll continuing to climb amid weather forecasts indicating that heavy rain will continue to fall in the near future.
Destruction Statistics: The Impact of 12 Days of Extreme Rain
This disaster has hit almost all corners of the country, with impacts reaching most of Afghanistan’s 34 provinces. The latest data shows how serious the damage is:
- Casualties: 110 people killed (including 11 in the last 24 hours).
- Injured Victims: 160 people (including 6 people in the last 24 hours).
- Residential Damage: 958 houses were completely destroyed and 4,155 houses were partially damaged.
- Families Affected: Around 6,122 families lost their homes or experienced property damage.
Infrastructure and Agriculture Threatened with Paralysis
Apart from claiming lives, this disaster also destroyed the lifeblood of the community.
Authorities reported that more than 325 kilometers of roads were destroyed, which hampered aid access to the affected areas.
