KEPRI POST – Russia views Iran’s proposed 10-point plan as a diplomatic success and a victory of common sense amid tensions with the United States (US) and Israel.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, said the current conflict between Iran and the US had basically been suspended after the two sides agreed to a pause in tensions.
According to Medvedev, the situation shows that a rational approach ultimately takes precedence over military escalation.

“So who wins? First and foremost is common sense, which was seriously undermined by the White House’s statement about destroying Iranian civilization in one day,” Medvedev said in his statement, Wednesday (8/4/2026).
He considered the United States’ willingness to discuss Iran’s proposed 10-point plan a success for Tehran. However, Medvedev said there were still questions about whether Washington would actually agree to all the provisions put forward in the proposal.
Medvedev also warned the US government to maintain the currently fragile ceasefire with Iran. According to him, further escalation steps will only worsen the situation in the Middle East region.

Russia Emphasizes the Importance of Diplomacy
On the same day, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, also responded to developments in the ceasefire between Iran and the US.
Zakharova assessed that an aggressive approach through unprovoked military attacks had proven ineffective in resolving the conflict. He emphasized that the current situation in the Middle East shows that a strategy based on escalation of violence cannot provide a long-term solution.
According to him, from the start Russia has called for an immediate end to aggression and encouraged resolving the conflict through political and diplomatic channels.
Zakharova also emphasized that negotiations must be carried out based on international law and mutual respect for the interests of all parties involved.
Iran and the US Agree on a Temporary Ceasefire
Previously, Iran and the United States agreed to a ceasefire for two weeks. The agreement was reached less than two hours before the deadline set by US President Donald Trump.
As a follow-up step, the two countries are scheduled to hold negotiations in Pakistan starting Friday (10/4/2026) to discuss the possibility of resolving the conflict more permanently. ***
