ABOUT CIBUBUR – Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are heating up again after Iran warned of the serious consequences of the United States’ military steps in the strategic region of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, assessed Washington’s policy as a provocative action that had the potential to disrupt regional stability at the global level.

In a report by Iranian state media, Press TV, Araghchi conveyed this warning during a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, on Monday (13/4).

He emphasized that the United States’ “reckless” steps not only endanger regional security, but could also have a broad impact on world peace.

Tensions escalated after Donald Trump’s administration threatened to impose a naval blockade on Iran.

This step was reinforced by the statement by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) which had begun monitoring and restricting ship traffic in the Sea of ​​Oman and the Arabian Sea, areas directly connected to the Strait of Hormuz.

This policy is said to apply to all ships regardless of flag, sparking widespread concern about disruption to global trade routes.

A number of international energy institutions such as the International Energy Agency say that around 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz every day, making it one of the most vital energy routes in the world.

Iran Threatens Strong, Widespread Response

The Iranian government strongly rejects this move which it considers to be illegal. Tehran insists it is ready to respond to any attempt to disrupt its territorial waters.

The Iranian military even warned that if the country’s ports were targeted, all ports in the Persian Gulf and Sea of ​​Oman could potentially be affected.
