Hi Bandung – King Charles III and Camilla arrived at the White House on Monday for a state visit to Washington.
This arrival takes place in a city still overshadowed by the weekend shooting incident and the emergence of new tensions in transatlantic relations.
The royal couple was greeted by Donald Trump and Melania Trump.
After shaking hands and taking a group photo, they held a casual meeting while enjoying tea before being taken on a tour of the newly expanded south lawn area of the White House.
Next, Charles and Camilla attend a garden party at the British Embassy. During this event, they interacted with a number of United States government officials and political figures.
A warm and friendly atmosphere was visible, even though relations between the two countries were facing quite challenging dynamics.
State Agenda and Diplomatic Messages
This four-day visit coincides with the 250th anniversary of United States independence.
However, this agenda took place amidst geopolitical issues, including policies related to Iran. Apart from that, the shooting incident at the Washington Hilton which triggered increased security was also an important background for this visit.
However, Buckingham Palace ensured that all series of activities would continue. The following day, King Charles is scheduled to attend a state banquet and deliver a speech to the US Congress, a rare moment for a British monarch.
In his speech, he is expected to emphasize the importance of the historical relationship between the UK and the US.
He will also convey sympathy for the shooting incident as well as a message of friendship from the British people to the American people.***
