BUTOLPOST The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has made another controversial statement by dragging the name of the King of England, Charles III, into a potential conflict with Iran.
In his statement to journalists on Wednesday (29/4), Trump said that King Charles III would likely support the United States’ steps if a military operation took place against Iran.
“If it were up to King Charles, he would probably help us fight Iran,” Trump said.
Not only that, Trump also claimed that the king would follow the United States’ direction regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
This statement comes amidst tense relations between Washington and London, especially after the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, refused to support US plans to deal with Iran.
Trump even made sharp sarcasm at Starmer by comparing him to the legendary British figure, Winston Churchill.
“This is not Winston Churchill we’re dealing with,” Trump said.
Apart from the Iran issue, Trump also criticized the migration and energy policies implemented by the Starmer government, which he said were not in line with Western interests.
Previously, on April 1, Trump also threatened to withdraw the United States from NATO. The threat emerged after a number of European countries refused to join US-Israel military operations against Iran, including refusing to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump believes that this attitude shows that European countries can no longer be relied on as strategic defense partners for the United States.
Trump’s strong statements have the potential to exacerbate geopolitical tensions, as well as trigger new concerns regarding global security stability.
