UN: For Journalists the Gaza Strip is the Deadliest Area in the World

DIRECTIONS – The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said that the Gaza Strip is the deadliest place in the world for journalists.

In a post on X marking World Press Freedom Day, the UN agency urged the international community to take concrete action and not just express condemnation and solidarity.

He emphasized the importance of accountability, protection for journalists and ensuring independent access for international media.

Meanwhile, UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk said the war that is still ongoing in Gaza has become a death trap for the media.

OHCHR has verified the deaths of nearly 300 journalists since October 2023, when Israel began launching aggression on Gaza.***
