15 Police Killed in Militant Attack in Northwest Pakistan

PONTIANAK NEWS – At least 15 people were killed in a militant attack on a police checkpoint in the Bannu area, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, northwest Pakistan, Sunday 10 May 2026.

A Bannu police official, Muhammad Sajjad Khan, said the attack began with a suicide bombing using an explosives-laden vehicle that crashed into a checkpoint in Fateh Khel.

“After the explosion, a number of militants entered the checkpoint and opened fire,” he said.

According to authorities, 15 police officers were confirmed dead in the incident, while three other people were injured. The perpetrators also reportedly used an armed quadcopter type drone in the attack.

A local administration official said more than 100 militants were involved in the attack. After carrying out the attack, the armed group also took away a number of weapons from the police post.

In recent years, the Bannu region has often been the target of attacks by militant groups operating in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border area.

This incident occurred amid increasing tensions in relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan regarding the activities of armed groups in the border area.

The Taliban government in Kabul denies Pakistan’s accusations that Afghanistan is a haven for militant groups carrying out attacks on Pakistan.

In recent months, tensions between the two countries have even developed into armed clashes, including Pakistani air attacks on a number of areas in Afghanistan.
