Cianjurpedia.com – Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte is again facing impeachment proceedings after the local DPR approved the filing of articles of impeachment against her, Monday, May 11 2026.
A total of 255 of the 318 members of the lower house supported Duterte’s filing of impeachment articles, exceeding the constitutional threshold of one-third of the vote needed to take the case to the upper house (Senate).
The Senate will next convene as an impeachment court to determine whether Duterte should be removed from office.
If found guilty, he could also be permanently barred from holding public office.

Accusations against Duterte include alleged misuse of public funds and death threats against his former ally, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
This is the second impeachment attempt against Duterte after the previous process failed before being brought to the Senate following a Supreme Court ruling that stated there were procedural violations.
This case is considered to be able to affect Duterte’s chances of running in the 2028 presidential election.
Duterte-Marcos political relations worsened after both were elected in 2022.

Tensions increased after the Marcos government handed over former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, Sara Duterte’s father, to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
Rodrigo Duterte is currently in detention pending trial on charges of crimes against humanity related to his war on drugs while he was in power.***
