PAKU MEDIA, TEHERAN – Tensions between Iran and the United States are back in the spotlight after claims emerged from Tehran that its air defense forces had succeeded in bringing down an American military plane in southern Iran.

However, this statement was immediately denied by the US military, which emphasized that none of its air assets had been lost.

According to reports from a number of Iranian media on Friday (29/5/2026), the country’s air defense system reportedly shot down a United States military plane that was passing through the skies in the Jam region, Bushehr Province, in the early hours of local time.

The report was broadcast by Iran’s national television station and a number of local news agencies citing official sources in Tehran.

They said the shooting operation was carried out by Iran’s air defense unit after detecting the presence of a plane considered a threat.

The Governor of Jam, Masoud Tangestani, also confirmed the incident to local media. He stated that an “enemy plane” had been shot down in his administrative area.

However, until now there is no detailed information regarding the type of aircraft in question or the condition of the crew on board.

The absence of visual evidence and the lack of details regarding the plane’s identity has sparked various speculations regarding the veracity of this claim. The Iranian government has also not released official documentation that could substantiate their statements.

On the other hand, the United States military through US Central Command (CENTCOM) immediately gave a firm response. In its official statement, CENTCOM denied that the American plane had been shot down and emphasized that the entire air fleet operating in the Middle East was still safe and monitored.

“No US aircraft was shot down. All United States air assets are still recorded and under surveillance,” the US military said in a statement.

The differences in claims between these two countries again show the high geopolitical tensions in the Middle East region. Until now there has been no independent verification that can confirm the veracity of information from either party, so this incident is still being debated and continues to be monitored by the international community.

With no evidence that can be publicly verified, the world public is now waiting for further developments to find out whether it is true that a US military plane has crashed in Iranian territory or whether it is just part of an information war between two countries that have had tense relations. ***
