Semarangku.com – Paris, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia and France have the same views regarding resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict through implementing a two-state solution.
Prabowo conveyed this during a state visit to France and met with President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace, Paris, Thursday (28/5).
During the meeting, Prabowo and Macron agreed that the stability of the Middle East region is an important common interest, considering its impact on world energy security and global supply chains.
“I am also very happy that France is one of the pioneers in inviting many countries in Europe and the West to support a two-state solution for Palestinian independence,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo also reiterated Indonesia’s stance that peace in the Middle East will not be realized without implementing a two-state solution and justice for the Palestinian people. “Indonesia remains of the view that there is no possibility of peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution and without justice for the Palestinian people,” said Prabowo.
Apart from the Palestinian issue, this state visit also aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, including through the formation of the France-Indonesia High Level Business Council to encourage investment and economic cooperation. Indonesia and France are currently establishing strategic cooperation in various fields, especially defense, science and technology, and education. Economic cooperation between the two countries is also strengthened through the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) framework.
On the same occasion, Prabowo said that he had instructed French language teaching at various levels of education in Indonesia. According to him, this step is important amidst global dynamics full of uncertainty and conflict.
Closing his statement, Prabowo emphasized his belief that Indonesia and France can together play a constructive role in maintaining world peace.
“We believe that in a global situation that is full of uncertainty, full of tension, full of conflict, our two countries can play a positive role,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo added that Indonesia will continue to encourage various efforts to maintain world peace, with the belief that conflict will not bring good to any party. **
