Cianjurpedia.com – A South Korean court sentenced former president Yoon Suk Yeol to 30 years in prison on Friday for ordering an attack by drone on North Korea.
Yoon Suk Yeol’s instructions are considered to increase cross-border tensions and create a pretext to impose martial law in December 2024.
Former South Korean defense minister Kim Yong Hyun, who was tried alongside Yoon Suk Yeol, was also sentenced to 30 years in prison.
The Seoul Central District Court found the two guilty of acts that benefited the enemy, Kyodo News Agency reported.

The judge ruled they were deliberately trying to create a national emergency situation so that it could be used as a basis for declaring martial law.
“This directly contradicts the purpose of giving the defendants the authority to declare martial law in a state of emergency. By disguising it as a legitimate military operation, they exploited soldiers for personal gain, and betrayed the fundamental belief that military force should be used for legal purposes,” the court said.
The court also added that the defendants had betrayed the public trust, with the president and defense minister using military force solely for legitimate purposes, such as national defense.
This damage to trust is considered to hamper the rapid execution of military operations in the future.

Previously, South Korea’s special prosecutor demanded a sentence of 30 years in prison for Suk Yeol and 25 years in prison for Yong Hyun.
Last February, Yoo Suk Yeol was sentenced to life imprisonment for being proven to be the “mastermind” of the rebellion through a short-lived martial law decree.
Currently, he is in custody and is facing several other trials.***
