Indonesia made a commanding start to its 2026 ASEAN Championship Group A campaign with a convincing victory. The Garuda defeated Cambodia 5-1 thanks to a sensational debut performance from Mitchell Baker at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor Regency, on Monday night, July 27, 2026.
The victory puts Indonesia in a strong position early in the tournament. In addition to securing three points, head coach John Herdman earned praise for fielding several of the Garuda’s young players.
Despite the win, Indonesia remains third in the Group A standings, behind Vietnam, which recorded a dominant 7-0 victory over Timor-Leste. Singapore sits at the top of the table after winning its opening two matches against Cambodia and Timor-Leste.
Mitchell Baker was the standout performer of the match.
The young striker needed just six minutes to give Indonesia the lead. Baker struck again in the 15th minute, extending the Garuda’s advantage to 2-0.
Right-back Sandy Walsh added his name to the scoresheet five minutes later to make it 3-0.
At the start of the second half, Indonesia briefly lost its concentration.
Just three minutes after the restart, Sok Meng Chea pulled one back for Cambodia, finishing from the right side of Indonesia’s defense to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
In the 56th minute, Mitchell Baker once again showcased his clinical finishing by completing his hat-trick, restoring Indonesia’s three-goal advantage at 4-1.
Indonesia’s final goal came in the 86th minute, with Jens Raven sealing an emphatic 5-1 victory.***
