Motorcycle Gangs Cause Concern in Bandung, Joint Patrols Intensified Ahead of School Holidays

teenagers are detained by police officers

A video showing a group of motorcycle riders carrying bladed weapons on the Mochtar Overpass (Pasupati Flyover) in the early hours of Friday, June 12, 2026, circulated widely on social media. In response, joint patrols will be intensified to anticipate street crime across Bandung.

“That is exactly why we need to intensify patrols. In fact, I had already arranged patrols last night, but we clearly need to increase them further,” Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said at Bandung City Hall.

Farhan stated that on Friday night, the Bandung City Government, together with security forces, would deploy a large number of personnel to conduct patrols aimed at preventing street crime.

“Tonight, we will start from Soekarno Street and continue patrolling around the city,” he said.

According to Farhan, the joint patrols are not intended solely to prevent the activities of motorcycle gangs. They are also aimed at combating acts of thuggery and maintaining order in vulnerable areas throughout the city.

The primary objective, he said, is to create a greater sense of security among residents.

“We will patrol using security vehicles to demonstrate that residents are safe—that is our top priority. However, the real strength lies in the neighborhoods, both at the district and sub-district levels. Therefore, we will ensure that violence does not occur within local communities,” he said.

“Meanwhile, on the main roads, we will continue working together with the police, including the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob), as well as patrol units from the District Military Command (Kodim). Patrols will cover Bandung around the clock. We will make sure security is maintained throughout tonight’s operations,” Farhan added.

Farhan further noted that the city is about to enter the school holiday period. He expressed concern that some teenagers might use the vacation period to engage in negative activities, making enhanced security patrols even more necessary.

“There is a tendency for youth violence to increase when school holidays begin. This is particularly worrying because several suspects arrested a few weeks ago were only between 15 and 16 years old,” he said.

Suspects Detained

Meanwhile, the Bandung Metropolitan Police (Polrestabes Bandung), through its Prabu 2 Team, apprehended four teenagers suspected of planning a street brawl in the Jalan Terusan Suryani area of Babakan Ciparay District, Bandung, in the early hours of Friday, June 12, 2026.

Police confiscated three bladed weapons from the suspects.

Bandung Metropolitan Police Operations Chief Senior Commissioner Asep Saepudin explained that the arrests began following reports from members of the public regarding an alleged brawl in the Holis area at approximately 2:21 a.m.

However, after officers arrived at the reported location, no signs of a disturbance were found.

“Afterward, the Prabu 2 Team continued patrol operations in the Jalan Terusan Suryani area,” Asep said.

While passing through the location, officers encountered a group of young people gathered together. Upon noticing the police, the group panicked and attempted to flee. Suspicious of their behavior, officers immediately pursued them.

“Out of more than a dozen individuals who fled, officers successfully apprehended four,” he said.

The four teenagers were identified by the initials RM (14), MR (15), MS (16), and MRA (19). Two of them were still junior high school students, while the other two had already graduated.

According to preliminary questioning, the teenagers admitted to being members of a group known as Tim Ogah Mundur (TOM), which roughly translates to “Never Back Down Team.”

Officers subsequently searched the area around the arrest site in an effort to locate evidence. During the search, police recovered three bladed weapons that had allegedly been discarded or hidden by the group.

The confiscated weapons included a samurai sword, a sickle, and a modified large machete. Police strongly suspect that the weapons were intended for use in a street brawl.

For further investigation, the Prabu 2 Team transferred the suspects and the seized evidence to the local police jurisdiction.***
