PAPUA PORTAL – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank Walter Steinmeier agreed to strengthen economic relations between the two countries through increasing mutually beneficial trade and investment, in Jakarta, 15 June 2026.
In the bilateral meeting, Prabowo emphasized Indonesia and Germany’s commitment to continuing to expand economic cooperation in various strategic sectors.
“We agreed to continue to increase the volume of mutually beneficial trade and investment,” said Prabowo in a joint press statement at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (15/6/2026).

Prabowo also emphasized the importance of relations between Indonesia and Europe. According to him, the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) negotiations will provide great benefits for the business world in both regions.
“I emphasize the importance of relations between Indonesia and Europe, and we hope that the Indonesia-European Union CEPA agreement can reach a substantive conclusion,” he said.
He hopes that Germany can continue to play an active role in pushing for the process of finalizing the agreement at the internal level of the European Union.
“We hope that Germany will continue to play an active role in the process of finalizing the agreement within Europe so that it can immediately provide concrete benefits for the business world in both regions,” he said.
Apart from trade cooperation, relations between Indonesia and Germany are also strengthened through the Competitiveness Industrial Modernization and Trade Acceleration Program (CITA) which aims to increase industrial competitiveness and accelerate trade.
Prabowo also invited German investors to expand their investment in Indonesia, especially in priority sectors being developed by the government.

“Indonesia also invited Germany to expand investment in important sectors in Indonesia, such as the energy transition, industrial downstreaming, electric vehicle development and the semiconductor industry,” he said.
Meanwhile, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the two countries have the same vision in creating a stronger framework for trade and the economy.
“Indonesia and Germany also have a shared desire to build a good framework for trade and the economy. We hope that the Indonesia-European Union CEPA agreement can finally be signed,” said Steinmeier.***
