The arrangement of telecommunication overhead cables by PT Bandung Infra Investama (BII) has now begun to reach the Asia Afrika Street area, Bandung City. The lowering of the overhead cables underground is focused starting from Simpang Lima to the Tamblong-Lengkong Besar intersection.
Chief Operating Officer of PT BII Boby Surya Alam explained that the work carried out includes cutting cables on the left and right sides of Asia Afrika Street. This includes cables that cross (crossing) at a number of points along the corridor.
“In accordance with the request letter from Diskominfo regarding assistance in cutting cables, we are executing the cable disconnection agenda on Asia Afrika Street, precisely from Simpang Lima to the Tamblong-Lengkong Besar intersection,” said Boby, Friday, July 3, 2026.
He said the handling is being carried out up to the area before the Preanger Hotel as part of the arrangement of the Asia Afrika Street corridor. “During the implementation, there were no overly significant disruptions, all obstacles could be overcome,” he said.
According to him, handling the crossing overhead cables is an important job. “So technically, cable cutting will be carried out on the left and right sides of Asia Afrika Street, and then also on the crossings or cables that cross at several points of Asia Afrika Street,” said Boby.
Boby said this overhead cable arrangement is one of the steps taken by the Bandung City Government in improving the quality of urban infrastructure. “The existence of organized cables can enhance aesthetics, while reducing the potential for safety hazards,” he said.
Accident
Meanwhile, regarding the accident that befell a motorcyclist due to a cable excavation hole on Ahmad Yani Street late last weekend, Boby admitted that the company moved quickly after receiving the report of the incident. “For the victim, we take full responsibility,” he said.
According to him, the company’s main priority was to ensure that the victim’s condition was handled well, as well as to repair the damaged spot. “We will cover the medical expenses and the damage to the motorcycle, full cover,” said Boby.
Boby explained that the condition at the location was not an open hole, but rather a manhole cover that had experienced a slight depression on one of its sides. From the technical inspection, the cause originated from a manufacturing defect in the precast manhole frame section.
“So actually, the precast manhole experienced a manufacturing defect. After we investigated, the iron frame part was damaged so that the base became unstable. As a result, the manhole surface lowered slightly and caused an elevation difference with the road body,” he said.
According to Boby, the difference in surface height has the potential to disrupt the stability of two-wheeled vehicles when passing through. Therefore, he said, as soon as the report was received, the PT BII team immediately carried out emergency handling at night.
The repair, he said, was carried out by replacing the damaged manhole body. “Last night we executed it immediately. We replaced the damaged manhole body, then we tidied it up again. The repair was completed around 03.00 WIB,” said Boby.
Boby added that his party routinely deploys patrol teams to inspect all road sections and manholes that have been built to ensure their condition remains safe. “The goal is to avoid things like this so they do not happen again,” he said.
Previously, the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, admitted that he had established communication with stakeholders, including the Bandung City DPRD, in the framework of moving overhead cables underground. The cutting of overhead cables, which had temporarily stopped, was resumed.
According to him, the arrangement of the underground utility network, followed by the cutting of overhead cables, is part of the effort to beautify the face of Bandung City. He emphasized that the IPT (Passive Telecommunication Infrastructure) program is aimed at increasing public comfort.
In addition to the utility arrangement, he said, the Bandung City Government also continues to focus its attention on improving basic infrastructure, such as roads, sidewalks, and drainage. According to Farhan, infrastructure improvement is a primary need of the community that must be handled gradually.
