The West Java Provincial Government has once again nominated 16 cultural heritage works to be designated as Indonesia’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTb) during the first phase of the 2026 designation deliberation. The proposal is part of the province’s efforts to preserve and strengthen its cultural identity.
The 16 nominated cultural heritage works include Basa Cerbon from Cirebon Regency and Cirebon City, Batik Trusmi from Cirebon Regency, Bèrokan from Cirebon Regency, Golok Kala Pètok from Sukabumi City, Grebeg Syawal Cirebon from Cirebon City, Hajat Wawar from Subang Regency, Mapag Sri Cirebon from Cirebon Regency, Memitu Cirebon from Cirebon Regency, Ngunjal Kasepuhan Banten Kidul from Sukabumi Regency, Nyiramkeun Pusaka Talaga Manggung from Majalengka Regency, Seni Jaè from Sukabumi Regency, Campolay Fruit Syrup from Cirebon City, Tenun Buhun Gadod from Majalengka Regency, Kuramasan Tradition from Cianjur Regency, Ujungan Bekasi from Bekasi Regency, and Wayang Golèk Cepak from Indramayu Regency and Cirebon Regency.
West Java Submits 16 Cultural Heritage Works
Head of the West Java Tourism and Culture Office (Disparbud), Iendra Sofyan, expressed optimism that all of the proposed cultural heritage works have a strong chance of being officially recognized as Indonesia’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. According to him, all administrative and substantive requirements have been fulfilled as part of the nomination process.
“We have worked to meet all the requirements and carried out extensive preparations. We certainly hope this proposal will further enrich Indonesia’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage,” Iendra said in a statement quoted on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
He also expressed hope that the designation would strengthen the commitment of all stakeholders to preserving the continuity of traditions, knowledge, arts, customs, and various cultural practices that form the identity of the people of West Java.
Three-Phase Designation Deliberation
“This year, the mechanism for the Intangible Cultural Heritage designation deliberation differs from previous years,” he said.
The government is targeting the designation of approximately 1,000 cultural heritage works as Indonesia’s Intangible Cultural Heritage. To accommodate this target, the deliberation sessions will be conducted in three separate phases at different times.
The official results of the 2026 Intangible Cultural Heritage designation will be announced after the entire series of deliberation sessions has been completed. ***
