Indonesia will once again rely on its doubles disciplines in pursuit of titles at the 2026 Japan Open, which will be held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Japan, from July 14–19, 2026.
Indonesia will field 12 representatives across all five events. In the men’s doubles, the country will be represented by three pairs: Fajar Alfian–Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, Sabar Karyaman Gutama–Moh. Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, and Raymond Indra–Nikolaus Joaquin. Each pair enters the tournament with different preparations and objectives, but all have the potential to contend for top honors at the BWF World Tour Super 750 event.
The spotlight is on Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin, who have delivered consistently strong performances throughout the season. The young duo reached the final of the 2026 Indonesia Open, a BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament, but are still chasing their first title at the elite level.
Following their performance at the Indonesia Open, they spent the past month working closely with the coaching staff to improve various aspects of their game. They are determined to end their streak of runner-up finishes by claiming the title in Japan.
“We’ve conducted a thorough evaluation after the Indonesia Open. Competition at the highest-level tournaments is never easy because every opponent has outstanding quality and experience. Our goal is to perform better in Japan. We want to take it one step at a time, starting with reaching the semifinals before aiming for the title,” Joaquin said.
In the opening round, Raymond and Joaquin will face Japanese pair Haruki Kawabe and Kenta Matsukawa. It will be the first meeting between the two pairs.
Indonesia also has strong prospects in the women’s doubles through three improving partnerships: Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma–Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi–Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, and Rachel Allessya Rose–Febi Setianingrum.
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, Indonesia’s hopes rest on two young pairs: Jafar Hidayatullah–Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu and Amri Syahnawi–Nita Violina Marwah.
In the men’s singles, Indonesia arrives with greater confidence than it had several months ago. Alwi Farhan leads the country’s challenge after winning the 2026 Australian Open.
Indonesia has also gained additional strength in the event. Alongside Jonatan Christie and Alwi Farhan, Mohammad Zaki Ubaidillah has also secured a place in the main draw.***
