Montreal Police Chief, Fady Dagher, called the incident a major tragedy that left the city with deep sorrow.
According to police, reports of active shooting were received at around 11.30 local time in the Cote-des-Neiges area. When officers arrived at the location, a shootout occurred with the perpetrator who was inside a building and was using a long-barreled firearm.
