PRFMNEWS – – After only being opened for a few hours, the Iranian military closed the Strait of Hormuz again on Saturday, April 18. The strait was open for several hours, and a number of ships passed through the waters.
Reports regarding the closure of the strait were delivered on Saturday morning Iran time. This was announced by the Iranian military via official state television broadcast.
Iranian officials said they had canceled the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and reimposed restrictions on the vital shipping lane after the US said it would not end its blockade of Iranian ports.

In its official statement, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) emphasized that this policy was a response to the blockade carried out by the United States on Iranian ports.
“Until the US restores full freedom of navigation to ships sailing from Iran to their destinations and back, the status of the Strait of Hormuz will remain tightly controlled and in its previous state,” the statement said.
They also warned that any attempt to approach the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a form of collaboration with the enemy. “Violating vessels will be targeted,” stressed the IRGC.
This was reiterated by the country’s deputy foreign minister, Saeed Khatibzadeh, and the IRGC naval command.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of Turkey’s annual diplomatic forum in Antalya, Khatibzadeh said that the US “cannot impose its will to encircle Iran, while Iran, with good intentions, seeks to facilitate safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz”.
