BUTOLPOST – An earthquake measuring 7.4 magnitude rocked northern and northeastern Japan on Monday (20/4), triggering widespread concern at nuclear power plant (PLTN) facilities.

Public television station NHK reported that the power plant operator immediately moved quickly to carry out a thorough inspection to ensure that no serious problems occurred after the earthquake.

Tohoku Electric Power Company stated that the Onagawa NPP in Miyagi Prefecture was being inspected to ensure that the entire system continued to operate normally without any irregularities.

Tokyo Electric Power Company also took similar steps towards the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (Fukushima-1) and Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Plant (Fukushima-2) facilities, which were previously in the world spotlight due to the 2011 nuclear disaster.

Even though it caused concern, the Kyodo News news agency reported that to date no emergency conditions or dangerous anomalies have been found at the two facilities.

This strong earthquake occurred at 07.52 GMT (14.52 WIB) with the epicenter located around 71 kilometers from Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, based on data from the United States Geological Survey.
Not only that, local authorities

It also issued a tsunami warning for the northern and northeastern coastal areas of Japan, although the situation is now reportedly gradually under control.

This incident once again reminded the world of the high risk of natural disasters in Japan, especially for vital infrastructure such as nuclear power plants which are always under strict supervision. ***
