In X @CollinRugg’s post, on the same day, the sound of gunfire was heard when US President Donald Trump attended a media gala at the White House.
“President Trump has shared footage of the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and photos of the suspect,” he wrote.
Reportedly, now the perpetrator has been arrested in the inspection area right outside the hotel function room where hundreds of guests gathered.
So, what is the current situation after the shooting case that occurred at the White House, Washington? The following is the chronology.
Trump Evacuated, Hundreds of Guests Hide
Based on a New York Times report, Trump was evacuated from the stage at the event when the incident occurred.
At that time, the US Secret Service security team rushed past the groups of guests at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
“At this event, the guests wore formal clothes,” wrote the New York Times in its report, on Sunday, April 26 2026.
“Meanwhile people were running to hide under tables in a chaotic atmosphere,” he added.
1 Suspect Detained
Due to the chaos at the party attended by Trump at the White House, the Secret Service confirmed that 1 suspect had been detained.
The US security team added that the shooting incident occurred near the main security checkpoint area.
“Tactical teams with weapons drawn took up positions on the stage where Trump sat during dinner before being evacuated,” explained the New York Times.
“Police flooded the Washington Hilton Hotel, and helicopters circled overhead,” he added.
Trump Speaks Out
Separately, Trump, via his official Truth Social account, @realDonaldTrump, on the same day revealed that the alleged shooter had been arrested by the US security team.
“The Secret Service and law enforcement officers have done an extraordinary job,” he explained.
“They acted quickly and boldly. The shooter has been captured,” Trump continued.
Party events postponed
In his narrative, Trump also said that he would soon hold a press conference at the White House regarding the incident.
“Law enforcement officials have asked us to leave the location,” Trump said.
“The First Lady, Vice President and all members of the Cabinet are in good condition,” he stressed.
On the other hand, Trump plans to reschedule the event within 1 month despite the security incident.
