News Screen — A man from California who is suspected of carrying out the shooting at a press dinner attended by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, is scheduled to undergo legal proceedings in federal court on Monday, April 27, 2026.
The incident occurred on Saturday night at a hotel in Washington, DC, and sparked panic among guests consisting of government officials, journalists and other guests. Security forces immediately evacuated President Trump from the scene.
According to administration officials, the suspect allegedly targeted President Trump and a number of high-ranking government officials. However, the exact motive for the attack is still under investigation.

Acting United States Attorney General, Todd Blanche, stated that the suspect had not fully cooperated with investigators. “We expect the suspect will soon be formally charged in federal court,” he said in a television interview.
The perpetrator was successfully arrested after a brief shootout occurred with security officers in the hotel area. Based on initial information, the suspect was carrying a number of weapons, including a rifle, pistol and knife when the incident took place.
This incident created an atmosphere of panic inside the event hall, where guests reportedly took cover under tables when gunshots were heard. A security officer was hit by gunfire, but reportedly did not suffer serious injuries because he was wearing a protective vest.
President Trump, in his statement, admitted that he initially thought the sound was a falling object before realizing it was a gunshot. He also called the incident part of the security dynamics amidst an uncertain global situation.
The annual dinner hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association was planned to be rescheduled after the incident.
This incident has once again highlighted the issue of security for public officials in the United States, following several similar incidents in recent years. Law enforcement officials are still investigating the possibility of involvement of other parties in this case.***
