Hi Bandung – Donald Trump issued a strong threat to Iran, stating that the country could “wipe off the face of the earth” if it attacks United States ships trying to reopen shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz.
This statement came along with the launch of the US military operation entitled Project Freedom.
This operation aims to help hundreds of ships stuck in the Gulf region, as well as increasing geopolitical tensions which are now heating up again and approaching open conflict.
Tensions Rise in the Gulf Region
Iran on the other hand is trying to strengthen its blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
The US military claims to have destroyed six Iranian small boats and thwarted cruise missile and drone attacks. However, this claim was denied by Tehran.
Previously, Iran’s military command also warned that it would attack approaching US warships, even admitting to having launched two missiles at a US frigate.
This claim was immediately denied by US Central Command, which confirmed that none of their ships had been hit. In the midst of this situation, two US-flagged merchant ships managed to cross the strait under tight guard.
The Maersk company also confirmed that one of its ships had exited safely. Meanwhile, in the United Arab Emirates, the air defense system managed to intercept 15 Iranian missiles and four drones, although the attack sparked a fire at a Fujairah oil facility. In Oman, two residents were reported injured as a result of attacks in coastal areas near the strait.***
