THE THOUGHTS OF THE PEOPLE OF SULTENG – An event that was supposed to be a place for family entertainment turned into a center for national mourning. Horrifying incident involving a monster truck at the event Extreme Aero Show in Colombia has recently sparked a wave of global concern regarding safety standards at extreme sports events.
The incident started when a monster truck with modified giant tires was performing a routine stunt jumping over a pile of used cars. Based on video footage and eyewitness accounts, after successfully jumping over the first two cars, the truck appeared to lose control. Instead of slowing down, the vehicle accelerated without a clear direction.
In just a matter of seconds, the giant machine crashed through the fragile guardrail and directly hit the crowd of spectators at the front line. The atmosphere of cheering suddenly turned into hysterical screams as the crowd tried to save themselves from the multi-ton weight of the vehicle.

Victim Report and Loss Impact
Interim data compiled from local health authorities and emergency services shows the scale of the impact is very concerning. It was reported that at least 8 to 9 people were declared dead at the scene and in hospital, including several of them children. More than 80 people were injured, with around 20 in critical condition due to blunt force trauma, complex fractures and internal injuries. Mass psychological trauma was experienced by hundreds of spectators who witnessed the incident directly. The local government has declared a period of mourning as a form of respect for the victims.
The initial investigation focused on the two main possibilities of mechanical failure in the braking system or gas jamming, as well as human negligence (human error). However, a sharp spotlight was also directed at the organizers regarding the layout of the spectator area.
Spectators are allowed to be too close to the track without concrete barricades or protective structures capable of withstanding heavy vehicles. Ambulance access to the center of the crowd is hampered due to the density of the location and the lack of sterile evacuation routes. Authorities are investigating whether the driver has the appropriate certification and whether he is in top physical condition when operating the vehicle.

In response to this tragedy, the local Attorney General’s Office has detained the truck driver for further investigation and confiscated the organizer’s operational documents. This investigation not only aims to find out who is guilty, but also evaluates all permits for similar events in the future.
Public safety experts are urging the government to implement stricter regulations, including the mandatory use of permanent steel barriers and much wider minimum spectator distances for any events involving heavy vehicles.
This tragedy is a bitter reminder that entertainment should not come at the cost of life. In the midst of deep sorrow, society demands full transparency in the legal process so that justice for the victims can be upheld and similar incidents never happen again anywhere in the world.***
