Butolpost — The Russian government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly refuses to recognize United States citizenship for the children of its diplomats who were born in Uncle Sam’s country.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed that Moscow would not recognize US citizen status, which it considered forced on the families of Russian diplomats serving in the United States.
“Russia does not recognize the imposition of US citizenship on Russian citizens born to the families of our diplomatic, administrative-technical and consular personnel in the US,” Zakharova wrote in her article in the Russian media outlet Vedomosti.
According to him, this policy has the potential to open up opportunities for Washington to pressure or even influence the personnel of Russian diplomatic missions abroad.
Zakharova also raised serious concerns regarding possible interference with the children of Russian diplomats. He touched on extreme scenarios, such as alleged kidnapping under the pretext of child protection laws or certain social policies.
“What if a child is taken for reasons of child law or certain verification? We have seen many such examples,” he said.
This statement adds new tension to relations between Russia and the United States, which have recently heated up again on various issues, from diplomacy to global security.***
