THE THOUGHTS OF THE PEOPLE OF SULTENG – The hottest issue in this report comes from Berlin. Germany is being shaken by the arrest of a man named Jian G.who is the senior assistant of Maximilian Krahmember of the European Parliament from Germany’s far-right party, Alternative for Germany (AfD).

Jian G. was accused of being a double agent who leaked internal parliamentary information to China’s intelligence services. This scandal was very sensitive because it occurred just when Chancellor Olaf Scholz had just returned from a diplomatic visit to Beijing to improve trade relations. This proves that foreign influence has entered European political elite circles, especially through the populist parties that are on the rise.

The AfD itself is under intense scrutiny. If it is proven that there was a cash flow or policy influence, it could damage the party’s reputation ahead of a crucial election in Germany.

Turning to the UK and France border, the AJE report again highlights the dark side of migration. Five refugees, including a child, reportedly died while trying to cross the English Channel in a small rubber boat.

Ironically, this tragedy occurred just hours after the British Parliament passed it “Rwanda Bill” which is controversial. This law allows the British government to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda as a deterrent. However, facts on the ground show that tough regulations do not stop people from risking their lives. Refugees remain desperate because safe legal channels are virtually non-existent, while people smugglers continue to exploit their desperation.

From the United States, Al Jazeera reported the escalation of student protests on elite campuses such as Columbia University And Yale. Students built resistance tents and demanded that the university do something divestment (capital withdrawal) from companies that support Israeli militarism.

The police began to take repressive measures by arresting hundreds of students. However, this movement is actually increasingly spreading to other campuses throughout the US. The narrative developing here is a battle between “Freedom of Speech” versus “Government Foreign Policy”. These students emphasized that they would not stop until there were real steps towards a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Tensions in the South China Sea

This report also touches on recent incidents in Second Thomas ShoalSouth China Sea. Chinese coast guard vessels return to service water cannon against a Philippine supply ship.

The Philippines stressed that it would not retreat an inch from its sovereign territory, while the US reiterated its mutual defense commitment with Manila. It is predicted that this region will continue to be a flashpoint which could at any time trigger open conflict between the world’s two great powers.

From the spy scandal in Berlin to the student protests in New York, a common thread runs through all these events crisis of confidence. Society is losing trust in politicians (the German case), refugees are losing faith in humanity (the English Channel case), and young people are losing trust in educational institutions and their governments (the US campus case).***
