SABACIREBON – Government Saudi Arabia And Kuwait has reportedly lifted restrictions on the use of military bases as well as their airspace by the United States military. The policy was previously implemented after Washington launched an operation to reopen shipping lanes in Strait of Hormuz.
Report The Wall Street Journal said the decision provided greater space for the President’s government Donald Trump in securing international trade traffic in the Gulf region which is currently hit by geopolitical tensions.
Citing United States and Saudi Arabian officials, the report said Washington was preparing to resume naval escort operations for commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This operation will be supported by elements of US military sea and air power.

The security mission was previously temporarily stopped after lasting around 36 hours earlier this week. However, the Pentagon is now said to be evaluating a timetable for resuming operations, with some officials estimating military activities could resume in the near future.
Tensions in the region have increased since the United States came together Israel launched an attack on Iran on February 28 last. The move triggered retaliatory attacks from Tehran against Israel and a number of US allies’ interests in the Gulf region, including disruption of strategic shipping lanes.
The situation escalated after the Strait of Hormuz was closed, triggering global concerns about energy supplies and international trade. This route is known as one of the most vital oil distribution routes in the world.

The United States then announced a ceasefire that took effect on April 8 through mediation Pakistan. Follow-up talks in Islamabad were held to defuse the conflict, but have not yet resulted in a permanent agreement.
However, President Trump decided to extend the ceasefire indefinitely while maintaining pressure on Iran.
In the midst of the stalled diplomatic process, Washington began imposing a naval blockade on Iran’s maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz since mid-April.

Trump on Tuesday also stated that the military operation entitled “Project Freedom” was temporarily halted, although America’s maritime blockade in the region remained in full effect.
This latest development shows that the Gulf region is still in a very sensitive situation, with the potential for escalation which could at any time affect global security and economic stability.***
