News Screen – Iran’s Revolutionary Guard stated that the possibility of war re-igniting with the United States is considered low, even though military and diplomatic tensions between the two countries are still ongoing in the Middle East region.

This statement was conveyed by the Deputy Political Head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Mohammad Akbarzadeh, Wednesday, May 27 2026, in the midst of the ongoing peace negotiation process between Tehran and Washington.

According to Akbarzadeh, Iran remains on alert to face possible new attacks from opposing parties. “The possibility of war is low due to the enemy’s weakness. However, Iran’s armed forces are ready to face any threat,” Akbarzadeh was quoted as saying by Iranian media.

He also emphasized that Iran’s southern coastal region, from Chabahar to Mahshahr, is ready to become the main line of defense if the conflict escalates again.

The latest tensions arose after Iran accused the United States of violating a ceasefire that has been in effect since April 2026. This accusation emerged after reports of US military attacks in Iran’s southern region which were said to have targeted missile launch sites and mine-laying ships.

The United States Military Central Command (CENTCOM) previously said the attack was carried out as a “self-defense” measure to protect US troops from Iranian threats in the Gulf region.

On the other hand, Iranian state media reported an explosion in Bandar Abbas, a strategic port city near the Strait of Hormuz. The Revolutionary Guards also claimed to have shot down a US military drone that entered Iranian airspace.

Even though the security situation is heating up, diplomacy between the two countries is still ongoing through international mediation led by Pakistan and Qatar.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the opportunity to reach a peace agreement was still open, including regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is the main route for world energy distribution. “The Strait of Hormuz will reopen one way or another,” Rubio said.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized that his country is ready to build a framework for mutually respectful peace to end the long-standing conflict in the region.

Middle East tensions also spread to southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that at least 31 people were killed as a result of Israeli attacks on Tuesday (26/5/2026), including four children.

The conflict in Lebanon is still ongoing even though the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has been in effect since April 17. The Iranian government has also requested that any peace agreement with the US include an end to the conflict in Lebanon.

Until now, negotiations between Iran and the United States are still focused on a number of main issues, including Iran’s nuclear program, the security of the Strait of Hormuz, and the stability of the Middle East region.***
