DEPOK RUBLIC – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reports that the number of areas in Indonesia affected by the tsunami due to the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in southern Mindanao, Philippines, continues to increase. As of Monday morning, June 8 2026, tsunamis had been detected in seven locations with varying wave heights, ranging from 0.09 meters to 0.75 meters.
This incident occurred after a strong earthquake rocked the southern Philippines and triggered tsunami warnings in a number of coastal areas of eastern Indonesia.
List of 7 Indonesian Regions Affected by the Tsunami
Based on the latest BMKG data, the tsunami was first detected in three areas, namely Kedi in North Maluku, Ulu Siau and Melonguane in North Sulawesi.
Recorded wave heights include:
- Kedi, North Maluku: 0.09 meters
- Ulu Siau, North Sulawesi: 0.18 meters
- Melonguane, North Sulawesi: 0.19 meters
As monitoring progressed, BMKG then reported four additional locations that also experienced sea level rise due to the tsunami.
The four regions are:
- Tahuna, North Sulawesi: 0.30 meters
- Paleleh, Central Sulawesi: 0.45 meters
- Tanjung Sidupa, North Sulawesi: 0.32 meters
- Talengan, North Sulawesi: 0.75 meters
Of all the locations monitored, Talengan is the area with the highest tsunami waves recorded to date.

Talengan Records Highest Wave
BMKG data shows Talengan in North Sulawesi experienced a rise in sea level of up to 0.75 meters at 08.20 WIB. This figure is the highest compared to the other six affected regions.
Meanwhile, Paleleh in Central Sulawesi recorded waves as high as 0.45 meters, making it the area with the second largest impact after Talengan.
Even though the height of the tsunami is still relatively small compared to large tsunamis that have occurred in Indonesia, BMKG still asks coastal communities to be alert to possible changes in sea conditions.

M 7.7 Philippines Earthquake Triggers Tsunami Warning
An earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude that occurred in the southern region of Mindanao, Philippines, triggered tsunami activity that spread to several areas of eastern Indonesia.
Earthquake vibrations were also reported to be felt in several areas of North Sulawesi, including Manado and the surrounding area. For this reason, BMKG continues to monitor changes in sea level and the development of seismic activity after the earthquake.
People in coastal areas who are in the warning area are asked to continue to follow official information from BMKG and the local government.
