THE MIND OF THE PEOPLE – The United States launched a military attack on Iran on Tuesday evening, June 9 2026 at 22.00 UK time. President Donald Trump accused Tehran of being responsible for the downing of a US military Apache helicopter gunship near the Strait of Hormuz. In response, US Central Command (CENTCOM) targeted radar and air defense facilities along the Strait of Hormuz.
The attack was called a “proportional response to Iran’s unjustified aggression” and not a return to full-scale war. The Apache helicopter that crashed during a patrol mission had been a key US asset in enforcing its blockade of Iranian crude oil shipments. Two helicopter crew members were rescued using an unmanned ship drone called Corsair.
Trump said the incident was “not that big” and the pilot was in good condition, having previously expressed optimism that a peace deal could be signed in the next two or three days.

Iran Threatens Retaliation
Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, responded with a strong statement that while Iran preferred diplomacy, they “speak other languages much more fluently” and would turn to what they were best at if commitments were broken.
This incident occurred in the midst of a situation that had already escalated the day before when Iran and Israel exchanged fire on Monday, June 8, which was the biggest blow to the existing ceasefire. Iranian state television reported the Israeli strike killed at least two members of Iran’s air defense unit.
The war, which began on February 28 2026, has lasted more than three months, shaking the global economy, pushing energy prices soaring, and making the prices of various basic necessities including food increasingly expensive throughout the world.***
