BUTOLPOST – The Russian government revealed that to date President Vladimir Putin has not received an official invitation from the United States to attend the G20 Summit which is scheduled to take place in Miami on December 14-15 2026.
This was conveyed by the Special Ambassador of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the G20 and APEC, Marat Berdyev, in an interview with Russian media RIA Novosti.
According to Berdyev, invitations not yet being sent is not extraordinary because according to the tradition that applies in the G20 forum, official invitations to heads of state and government are usually sent about one to one and a half months before the summit is held.
“In accordance with long-standing G20 tradition, such invitations are sent ahead of the summit, about one to one and a half months in advance,” Berdyev said.
He explained that the invitation had an important protocol function in the G20 mechanism. Apart from being a form of respect for the participating countries, the invitation also contains information regarding the details of the high-level meeting.
Berdyev emphasized that the main purpose of sending invitations was to ensure that the summit agenda could be included in the official schedule of the world leaders who would attend.
“The point is to secure the event on the agenda of international leaders,” he said.
This statement emerged amidst world attention to relations between Russia and the United States, which are still characterized by various differences in views on a number of international issues. Putin’s presence at the upcoming G20 forum is expected to be one of the main highlights considering Russia’s position in various global geopolitical dynamics.
The G20 Summit in Miami itself will bring together the leaders of the world’s largest economies to discuss various strategic issues, ranging from global economic growth, international trade, energy security, to geopolitical challenges that affect world stability.
Even though an official invitation has not been received, Russia emphasized that the process is still in accordance with the procedures and schedules commonly applied in holding the G20 forum.
