THE MIND OF THE PEOPLE – The President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, claimed that Washington and Tehran were close to signing a peace agreement, and announced the cancellation of a planned missile attack on Iran.

According to The Guardian, this claim was immediately denied by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemenelu), which stated that a final decision on the agreement had not yet been reached.

“Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest levels of Iranian leadership and approved, I, as President of the United States, am canceling the scheduled attacks and bombings against Iran tonight,” Trump said.

However, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baghaei, emphasized that his country had not yet reached a final conclusion on the agreement, and that most of the negotiated text had been finalized but that Iran would not compromise its red lines.

Iranian semi-official media outlet Tasnim wrote that until Iran itself announces a potential understanding, any news from Trump on this should be ruled out.

A diplomat briefed on the talks said the deal had been largely agreed to several weeks ago, but there was still a 50 percent chance it would fail. “There are many potential roadblocks,” the diplomat said.

The new agreement being discussed includes a schedule for clearing mines in the Strait of Hormuz with Uncle Sam’s naval blockade remaining in effect during that period.

The deal also addresses mechanisms for further nuclear talks and the release of frozen Iranian assets, but contains no concrete agreements on how that would proceed.

Meanwhile, the number one person in South America claims that these talks have received approval from other parties including Israel, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey and Pakistan.

Before announcing the cancellation of the attack, Trump had announced the opposite. He previously threatened to attack Iran “VERY HARD, TONIGHT” and claimed the US would take over Kharg Island which handles about 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports.

But he later backed away from the threat, telling Fox News he didn’t know if “America has the guts for that”.
