PAPUA PORTAL – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his desire to strengthen partnerships with Germany in the employment sector in order to expand employment opportunities for Indonesian citizens (WNI). Prabowo wants Indonesian citizens who work in Germany to also be able to fill the high-tech industry.

“Indonesia also wants to expand job opportunities for Indonesian workers in Germany, including in the high-tech sector,” said Prabowo after receiving a state visit from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday, June 15 2026.

As the largest economy in the European Union, Germany is known as a global leader in the fields of innovation, research and high technology. Therefore, employment cooperation between the two countries has great potential to support the development of Indonesia’s human resource capacity.

On this occasion, Prabowo also welcomed the signing of the Letter of Intent regarding the Global Skills Partnership in the nursing sector between Indonesia and Germany. This program provides an official, ethical and structured pathway for Indonesian nurses to work or take part in internship programs in health facilities in Germany.

Apart from the employment sector, the two countries also continue to strengthen economic cooperation. One of them is through the Partnering in Business with Germany program which is aimed at Indonesian micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to increase managerial capacity and expand access to global supply chains and European markets.

Prabowo also hopes that Germany can continue to push for the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA), namely a strategic economic partnership agreement between Indonesia and the European Union which aims to increase market access, reduce trade barriers and strengthen investment cooperation.

“I emphasize the importance of relations between Indonesia and Europe and we hope that the Indonesia European Union CEPA agreement can reach a substantive conclusion. We hope that Germany will continue to play an active role in the process of finalizing the internal agreement in Europe. So that it can immediately provide concrete benefits for the business world in both countries,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Steinmeier expressed Germany’s full support for the completion of the IEU-CEPA agreement which has been negotiated for years.

“We hope that the Indonesia-Europe CEPA agreement, the negotiations for which have been completed after a long time, will finally be signed. And with that, up to 60% or 90% of customs duties will be eliminated. And we also in Germany feel that we remain responsible for immediately ratifying this agreement. And this agreement contains enormous potential,” said Steinmeier.***
