The Bandung City Government is studying the possibility of making entry access to the Tegallega Park area free. This follows a viral video on social media regarding alleged illegal levies (pungli) experienced by visitors when wanting to enter Tegallega Park.
The Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, said that visitors to Tegallega Park are indeed charged a retribution of Rp 2,000, based on the Bandung City Mayor’s Regulation (Perwal). Similarly, Farhan said, the Tirtalega Swimming Pool is also not free for the public.
“Well, it’s just that I am currently studying how to make it free, because it turns out there is a perwal for it. I am studying the regulation first so that it can then be revoked; hopefully, it can be free,” Farhan said, Friday, June 19, 2026.
According to him, the desire to make entry access free does not mean ignoring the management of the area. On the contrary, the Bandung City Government actually wants to ensure that all citizens have the opportunity to utilize public spaces as places for recreation, sports, and social interaction.
Farhan explained that Tegallega Park currently has highly diverse functions, thus requiring a more comprehensive re-planning. The area functions not only as a green open space but also as a location for various community activities.
“Tegallega now has mixed functions. There is green open space, there are sports facilities, there are community businesses, and there are even waste processing facilities. Therefore, we are conducting a re-planning so that everything is well-organized,” he said.
Farhan assesses that the future concept of public space planning must be able to accommodate various community interests without reducing environmental quality or visitor comfort. Moreover, public spaces play an important role in improving the quality of life of citizens.
The Plaza (Alun-alun)
Regarding the closure of the Bandung Plaza (Alun-alun Bandung), the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, mentioned the reason was because the results of the renovation work that had been carried out turned out to be poor. “I asked for it to be repaired, the auction to be fixed, and the design to be improved,” he said.
Previously, the Bandung Plaza revitalization project with a budget of Rp 4 billion was carried out starting August 11, 2025. After completion, the Bandung Plaza was briefly opened at the end of December 2025, but after that, it was closed again because many guiding blocks detached.
“In short, (the Bandung Plaza is closed) until it is completely finished and proper. Remember, during the year-end holidays of 2025, (the Bandung Plaza) was opened because it was already new, then many parts were damaged again, because the workmanship was indeed bad,” Farhan said.
The revitalization of the plaza does not change the concept of the Bandung Plaza. The synthetic grass that serves as the icon of the plaza remains there. The re-planning was carried out on supporting facilities such as fences, entrance paths for people with disabilities, drainage, and seating areas.
