Cianjurpedia.com – The Venezuelan government has officially declared a national emergency status following the strong earthquake that hit the country, according to Acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez.
Earlier on Wednesday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 had rocked Venezuela.
The epicenter of the earthquake was detected 16 kilometers from the town of Moron and 24 kilometers from San Felipe.
“We declared a national emergency status, as stipulated in our constitution,” Rodriguez said in a video speech on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 evening local time.

He added that Venezuela’s main airport, Maiquetia, had to be completely closed due to extensive damage.
“A number of regions were reported to be very badly affected. In the capital Caracas, buildings collapsed in various areas. The states of Miranda and La Guaira also experienced significant damage… including the regions of Aragua, Carabobo and Falcon,” explained Rodriguez.
Furthermore, Rodriguez said that at least 20 aftershocks had been recorded after the two main earthquakes.
“I want to thank governments around the world who immediately contacted Venezuela after the earthquake struck to express their solidarity and support,” said Rodriguez.

According to him, a number of countries such as the United States, Panama, Qatar, Cuba, Nicaragua, Turkey, Jordan, Colombia, Barbados, England, Brazil and Mexico immediately expressed their readiness to help Venezuela.
In addition, representatives from the United Nations (UN) and international financial institutions have reportedly contacted the Venezuelan government to offer assistance in post-disaster management.***
