The International Maritime Organization (IMO), which is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN), established International Seafarers’ Day, which was first observed in 2011.
International Seafarers’ Day was initiated with the aim of encouraging society to support and promote seafarers as people who are important to the global trade and transportation industry.
International Seafarers’ Day is intended as a reminder that many of the goods and products that people use every day come from the work of seafarers.

Its origins date back to the previous year, namely 2010, when a resolution was adopted by the Conference of the Parties to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Seakeeping for Seafarers (STCW).
After being officially established, International Seafarers’ Day was included in the UN’s Annual Commemoration list.
International Seafarers’ Day is intended to discuss topics such as the rights, health and safety of seafarers and crew members.***
