Relations between Indonesia and Singapore have entered a new chapter. President Prabowo Subianto and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong signed 26 strategic cooperation agreements during the annual Indonesia–Singapore Leaders’ Retreat held at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, July 6, 2026.
The agreements represent one of the most significant milestones in bilateral relations ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Indonesia and Singapore.
The partnerships extend beyond government collaboration to include the private sector, covering strategic areas such as investment, trade, energy transition, and digital transformation.
26 Concrete Outcomes from the Indonesia–Singapore Meeting
Speaking at a joint press conference following the meeting, President Prabowo said that relations between Indonesia and Singapore continue to grow stronger and more mutually beneficial.
This year’s Leaders’ Retreat produced 26 concrete outcomes, consisting of:
- 18 Government-to-Government (G2G) agreements
- 8 Business-to-Business (B2B) agreements
The President also emphasized that economic cooperation remains the cornerstone of bilateral relations, as the stability and prosperity of both Indonesia and Singapore are shared interests.
Eight Key Agreements Signed
During the signing ceremony, eight major agreements were formally exchanged in the presence of both leaders. These strategic documents include:
- A joint report from six bilateral economic working groups
- A joint statement on Supply Chain Resilience
- Cooperation on carbon credit trading under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement
- An updated Indonesia–Singapore defense cooperation agreement
- A cross-border electricity trade roadmap
- Cooperation involving Danantara, Keppel, Singapore Energy Interconnections, and Sembcorp
- A digital infrastructure partnership between Telkom and Singapore’s Economic Development Board
- The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for trade services through the Trade AI Advisor
These agreements reflect a new direction in Indonesia–Singapore relations, with a growing emphasis on the green economy, digitalization, and long-term investment.
Cooperation Expands to Healthcare, Education, and Clean Energy
In addition to the eight principal agreements, the two countries announced 18 additional partnerships spanning various strategic sectors, including:
- Women’s empowerment and child protection
- Research and innovation
- Environmental cooperation
- Nuclear safety and security
- Pharmaceutical and healthcare product regulation
- Youth and sports
- Financial technology (fintech)
- Education
- Enhanced air connectivity
- Industrial estate development
- Young farmer development
- Parliamentary cooperation
- Renewable energy
- Industrial investment
The broad scope of these partnerships demonstrates that Indonesia–Singapore relations now extend well beyond trade to encompass human capital development, technology, and environmental sustainability.
Green Investment Takes Center Stage
One of the most notable areas of cooperation is the expansion of collaboration in the clean energy sector.
Among the projects announced are:
- The development of biogas into biomethanol through a partnership between Pertamina Power Indonesia and CrecTech Singapore
- Joint industrial estate development involving HKI and the Singapore Manufacturing Federation
- The development of the Kendal Industrial Estate through a joint venture between Jababeka and Sembcorp
- Investment in the Morowali Solar Energy Project, involving Sembcorp, PT Sensa, and the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA)
These initiatives highlight Singapore’s growing interest in investing in environmentally sustainable energy projects in Indonesia.
This year’s Leaders’ Retreat also serves as an important milestone ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Singapore.
President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining strong bilateral ties while deepening strategic cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
