News Screen – The United States emphasized that it has the full capability to launch military operations again against Iran if diplomatic efforts regarding Tehran’s nuclear program do not reach an agreement.

This statement was made by US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth while attending the Asian defense summit in Singapore, Saturday, May 30 2026. He said Washington remained ready to face all possibilities amidst the ongoing tough negotiations. “We are more than capable of returning to action if necessary,” Hegseth said.

This statement came after United States President Donald Trump emphasized that any peace deal with Iran must meet the main condition, namely that Tehran must not develop nuclear weapons.

According to US government sources, a preliminary draft agreement was actually discussed in a meeting in the White House Situation Room. However, until now Trump is said to have not made a final decision regarding the proposal.

On the other hand, Iran denied that a final agreement had been reached. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, said his country would not accept pressure or unilateral conditions from Washington.

“Iran abandoned the language of ‘must’ 47 years ago,” Baqaei told Iranian state media.

Even so, diplomatic communications between the two countries are said to be still ongoing. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also said Tehran was ready to seek a “dignified framework” to end the conflict.

One of the important points of international concern is the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz shipping lane which was previously disrupted due to increasing military tensions in the Gulf region.

Trump also touched on plans to destroy Iran’s enriched uranium as part of the deal. However, Iran rejected this claim and emphasized that there had been no final discussions regarding ending their nuclear program.

Apart from the nuclear issue, the conflict in Lebanon is also part of regional discussions. Fighting between Israel and the Hezbollah group is still ongoing in the southern region of Lebanon even though ceasefire efforts are continuing.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli troops had moved deeper into southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, Hezbollah claims to continue carrying out retaliatory attacks on Israeli military positions in the northern region.

This situation has put the Middle East region under high geopolitical pressure again which has the potential to affect global economic stability and the security of international energy routes.***
