Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a special telephone conversation with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi on Friday (July 24, 2026) local time.
The diplomatic discussions focused on efforts to ease regional tensions and ensure the security of commercial shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf.
“Abbas Araghchi and Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi exchanged views on the latest geopolitical developments in the region, maritime navigation safety, and the uninterrupted movement of commercial vessels through the waters of the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf,” Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement.

The two top diplomats underscored the critical importance of maintaining stability in the maritime sector to ensure the smooth functioning of global supply chains.
They also agreed to strengthen regional cooperation to prevent the further escalation of conflict and promote peace and stability across the region.
The diplomatic engagement between Tehran and Muscat comes amid an increasingly volatile security situation in the Strait of Hormuz, following renewed military tensions between Iran and the United States.
Tensions in the strategic waterway have intensified after the collapse of the peace agreement between Washington and Tehran.
Previously, both sides had signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 aimed at ending the military clashes that had erupted on February 28.
However, hostilities resumed after U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally declared that the ceasefire agreement with Tehran was no longer in effect as of July 8.
Following the announcement, military escalation intensified significantly, with both sides carrying out retaliatory actions.
The U.S. Central Command initiated a series of airstrikes on Iranian territory, stating that the operation was a response to what it described as threats by Tehran to the safety of commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, the Iranian Armed Forces launched retaliatory strikes against several U.S. military bases across the Middle East.
Alongside the military response, Iran accused Washington of unilaterally violating the ceasefire agreement that had previously been reached between the two countries.***
