Britain Deploys HMS Dragon to the Middle East to Secure the Strait of Hormuz

SABACIREBON – Ministry of Defense English announced the deployment of the HMS Dragon combat ship to the Middle East region as an anticipatory step towards the possibility of carrying out an international mission to maintain the security of commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Type 45 destroyer was previously stationed in the near eastern Mediterranean Sea Cyprus and is now alerted to support joint British-French maritime initiatives as the situation warrants.

The mission plan received the support of the Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Emmanuel Macron as an effort to maintain freedom of navigation in the world’s strategic shipping lanes.

A British Ministry of Defense spokesperson said the initial deployment of HMS Dragon was part of preparatory steps to ensure Britain’s readiness in the multinational coalition co-led with France.

According to the British government, the presence of the warship aims to support international shipping security amidst increasing geopolitical tensions in the Persian Gulf region.
