The bumpy road surface condition on the West Karawang Toll access lane once again triggered a traffic accident on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. A truck carrying a load of paint overturned due to losing its balance while passing over the uneven road contour.
The incident resulted in hundreds of gallons of paint spilling and scattering, blocking part of the road body. Besides creating a potential slip hazard for other drivers, the crosswise position of the truck’s body temporarily triggered a fairly long traffic jam from the direction of the toll gate.
The truck driver, Suharman, explained that the single-vehicle accident occurred at 01:00 in the morning. Before the accident, he was traveling from the direction of Rangkasbitung, Banten, toward Subang Regency, West Java.
Suharman recounted that one of his vehicle’s tires had gone flat while still inside the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll road section. For safety, he decided to exit at the West Karawang Toll gate with the intention of finding the nearest tire repair service.
However, having just driven a few meters after exiting the toll area, the truck he was driving overturned due to hitting extreme road bumps. Suharman admitted he had difficulty anticipating the road damage because the conditions around the scene were very dark.
As a result of the accident, as many as 900 to 1,000 buckets of retail-ready paint spilled and scattered on the asphalt. All the cargo that was still in intact condition is planned to be transferred to a replacement truck fleet to continue the delivery to Subang.
The Head of the Law Enforcement Unit (Unit Gakkum) of the Karawang Police Traffic Corps, Inspector Fujiaruly, confirmed that the main cause of the accident was triggered by damaged road infrastructure factors. The truck lost control exactly when transitioning from the direction of the West Karawang Toll toward the Karawang Outer Ring Road area.
Joint personnel immediately launched an evacuation operation starting at dawn. Officers prioritized cleaning up the spilled paint material first before bringing in heavy equipment to lift the truck’s position.
