JURNALACEH.COM – The President of the United States, Donald Trump, officially decided to extend the ceasefire with Iran indefinitely.

This strategic decision was taken just hours before the deadline expired, with the aim of providing diplomatic space for the peace negotiation process between the two countries.

Through a statement on his social media, Trump revealed that this step was taken after a special request from Pakistan, which had been acting as the main mediator in the conflict.

”I agree to Pakistan’s request to hold back attacks on Iran until their leaders develop a unified peace proposal,” Trump said on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, quoted from Reuters.

This extension of the ceasefire will remain in effect until Iran submits an official proposal and all discussions at the negotiating table are completed.

Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, expressed his deep appreciation to Trump for this discretion. Sharif hopes that this extension will be a turning point for stability in the Middle East region.

”I hope both parties continue to adhere to this agreement in order to reach a comprehensive ‘Peace Agreement’ at the second round of talks in Islamabad,” Sharif wrote via his official account on the X platform.

Even though the ceasefire on land and in the air was extended, the situation remains tense. Trump confirmed that the US Navy’s blockade of Iranian ports would remain in place. This step is considered by Iran to be a form of war that hampers the economy.

Trump highlighted the instability of the Iranian government following the joint US-Israel military operation which began last February. UN Secretary General, António Guterres, continues to remind all parties to comply with international humanitarian law, especially the protection of civil infrastructure and power plants.

Trump’s decision surprised the public, considering that he previously stated that he was reluctant to extend the temporary agreement and said that the US military was in a position of “full combat readiness.”

However, in a recent interview with CNBCTrump struck a more optimistic tone. He believes that Washington’s current bargaining position is very strong and will result in what he calls “a great deal” (a great deal) to end the conflict permanently.

Until now, Tehran or Tel Aviv have not provided an official statement regarding this latest decision from the White House. ***
