PONTIANAK NEWS – France imposes an entry ban on Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

This policy was conveyed by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot on Saturday 23 May 2026, following what he called unacceptable actions against French and European citizens on board the Global Sumud flotilla.

“As of today, Itamar Ben-Gvir is prohibited from entering French territory,” Barrot said in his statement.

The decision was taken after Ben-Gvir uploaded a video showing the treatment of detained Global Sumud activists, in which they were seen kneeling with their hands tied.

However, Barrot emphasized that France does not agree with Global Sumud’s action in trying to break through Israel’s blockade by sea.

He said the action “did not produce any beneficial effect and instead burdened diplomatic and consular services”.

However, France, Barrot said, could not accept its citizens being “threatened, intimidated or treated brutally”, especially by a public official.

Barrot also called on the European Union to impose sanctions on Ben-Gvir, in line with calls from a number of parties in Europe, including Italy.

On that occasion, he also praised the professionalism and dedication of the French diplomatic staff who handled this problem.
