Cianjurpedia.com – Moscow was the target of one of the biggest drone attacks by Ukraine since the war began, with an oil refinery facility hit and around 200 drones heading towards the Russian capital intercepted.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, in a post on Telegram on Thursday, said Russian air defense forces were continuing their efforts to repel large-scale attacks.

“Air defense forces continued to repel large-scale attacks, but some drones were able to reach the MNPZ (a large oil refinery in Moscow),” Sobyanin said.

The largest attack reported before Thursday occurred on May 17, when Russian authorities said their air defense systems were able to intercept 81 drones approaching Moscow.

Local authorities also reported shooting down 61 drones on May 7 and 38 drones on May 16.

Separately, the Russian Defense Ministry said its air defense system had destroyed 555 Ukrainian drones at various points in Russia overnight.

However, as a result of the attack, the management of Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow managed to evacuate passengers to a safe location, making this the first safety measure implemented since the war against Ukraine began.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack on an oil refinery in Moscow.

“Last night, our long-range strikes reached the Moscow region again. For the second time in a week, Moscow’s oil refineries were hit,” Zelenskyy said via Telegram.

He added that a number of other targets in Russia’s Rostov region and Russian-occupied Ukraine were also attacked.

Ukraine’s military general staff, apart from confirming the attack on an oil refinery in Moscow, also stated that it had attacked a railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal. The Gukovo oil depot in the Rostov region, Russia, was not spared from attacks.

“In addition, our forces attacked a bridge on the Kalka River near the village of Hranitne in the Donetsk region and a railway bridge on the North Crimean Canal in the Razdolnensky region of Crimea,” the Ukrainian military general staff said in a statement.
