Indonesian Government Condemns Israel's Action to Intercept Global Sumud Flotilla Ship, Prioritizes Protection of Indonesian Citizens

Semarangku.com – Jakarta, The Government of the Republic of Indonesia strongly condemns the actions of the Israeli military which intercepted a number of ships belonging to the international humanitarian mission Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 in the waters around Cyprus, the Eastern Mediterranean.

Spokesperson I for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, emphasized that to date at least ten ships have been confirmed as captured, including the Amanda, Barbaros, Josef and Blue Toys ships.

Based on information from the Global Peace Convoy Indonesia (GPCI), there was an Indonesian citizen (WNI) named Andi Angga Prasadewa who was on the Josef ship as a GPCI – Rumah Zakat delegate.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the actions of the Israeli military which has intercepted a number of ships belonging to the international humanitarian mission Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 in the waters around Cyprus, the Eastern Mediterranean,” said Yvonne.

Meanwhile, efforts are still being made to contact the ship carrying journalist Bambang Noroyono alias Abeng to find out the status of the ship, including Bambang Noroyono’s condition on the ship.

“The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges Israel to immediately release all detained international humanitarian mission ships and crew, and guarantee the continued distribution of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in accordance with international humanitarian law,” he continued.

Yvonne also emphasized that protecting Indonesian citizens will continue to be the Indonesian Government’s main priority amidst the rapidly developing situation.

“Protecting Indonesian citizens will continue to be the Indonesian Government’s top priority amidst a situation that is developing very quickly,” he said.

Since the beginning, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens, has coordinated with the Indonesian Embassy in Ankara, the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo and the Indonesian Embassy in Amman to prepare anticipatory steps to ensure the safety and speed up the process of returning Indonesian citizens.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also continues to communicate with various related parties to obtain the latest information regarding the condition of Indonesian citizens, as well as preparing contingency steps, including facilitating protection and accelerating the repatriation process if necessary. **
